Washington: Sign up to be a citizen lobbyist

Posted by Safer States on Sep 9, 2008

Citizen_lobbyist_wa The Washington Toxics Coalition is calling upon regular people like you to sign up as citizen lobbyists. To counter the efforts of industry lobbyists, who are meeting with candidates and elected officials to push their agenda, citizen lobbyists will meet with candidates in person to deliver the message that voters want communities and consumer products free of harmful chemicals.

Over the past three years nothing has done more to contribute to the coalition’s victories than when small groups of everyday people meet with legislators from their district.  Many of these meetings have resulted in changing legislators’ minds.

Now is the best time to have these meetings because candidates want to know what issues matter to voters.

The meetings normally last 30-60 minutes and take place at a local café or restaurant.  We will help and support you every step of the way by providing background information, training, and advice.  That said the most important and effective part of the meeting is you sharing with your candidates, why you care about the issue.
