Washington: Win a visit from the Toxic Truth Sleuths

Posted by Safer States on Sep 26, 2008

Friendlyghost What are scariest things lurking around your home this October? The mob of young witches and vampires clambering at your door this Halloween might not be all you have to fear.  Because of lax regulation, chemicals that can be harmful to our health are turning up in the consumer products we use everyday in our homes.  If you want to find out what toxic chemicals are disguising themselves as safe consumer goods in your home, you need a visit from the Toxic Truth Sleuths!

Tell us why you deserve a visit from the Toxic Truth Sleuths by submitting a story or video here.

Our panel of experts will chose four winners from across Washington state to receive a home visit from the Toxic Truth Sleuths.

The Toxic Truth Sleuths will uncover toxic chemicals hiding in the products you use everyday! The visit will include:

  • Testing plastic products in your home, including toys, for heavy metals with our XRF analyzer;
  • Reviewing common household products, including, pesticides, toiletries, and cosmetics, for dangerous toxics chemicals;
  • Conducting an inventory of common household items, such as shower curtains, to detect the presence of PVC/vinyl.

To win, submit a compelling story (written or video) explaining why we should test your home. All winners must participate in a media event announcing the results. Our goal is to educate the public and legislators about how toxic chemicals wind up in our homes.
