New toy testing shows toxins persist in toys
HealthyToys.org has released new toy safety testing results, based on the testing requests of parents. HealthyToys.org tested 13 of the most popular toys as voted on by HealthyToys.org supporters, along with over 500 other popular toys over the last few months.
Unfortunately, these test show that far too many toys still have elevated levels of toxic chemical in them.
However, for the first time, HealthyToys.org has also screened 250 organic and natural children's products for harmful chemicals. These tests confirm that natural and organic toys are substantially cleaner then other toys. View the natural/organic test results here and here.
Among the toys tested were popular items like Graco’s Baby Einstein Discover & Play Activity Center, Fisher-Price’s Go Baby Go Bounce & Spin Zebra and Fisher-Price’s Ocean Wonders Kick & Crawl Aquarium.

In the video clip above, Dr. John Peterson Myers, author of Our Stolen Future and founder, CEO and Chief Scientist of Environmental Health Sciences, discusses important chemical policy issues that are directly relevant to our everyday lives and the health of our children.
Under the new European law on chemicals, REACH (Registration, Authorisation, Evaluation and restriction of Chemicals), manufacturers are required to disclose to consumers the presence of certain toxic chemicals in their products. When you ask, companies are obliged to tell you within 45 days if a product contains chemicals that are on REACH's 'most harmful' list. We believe all consumers deserve the same information, regardless of where they live.
If you are concerned about toxic chemicals in children's products you can now send a letter to your toy's manufacturer.
